Our night!

We had a great Halloween night!  I don't even want to think about the amount of candy Luke consumed today!  Here are a few pictures to share.....

We went to our church's fall festival for awhile, then went trick or treating in Mimi and Pop Pop's neighborhood.......

They had alot of neat games to play at the church.  Luke loves to hammer so this game was right up his alley....

Then he went to a tattoo booth, Eugene was so proud Luke picked out a football tattoo!

The kids are both spending the night with Mimi and Pop Pop tonight!  Eugene and I are getting up early in the morning and going Christmas shopping for the kids!  Toys R Us is having some pretty good sales, Eugene and I have been looking at the big toy book from Toys R Us almost every night mulling over what to buy them, having kids is so much fun!

Almost time!

I am so excited about Trick or Treating tonight!  This is the first year Luke has really really gotten into it so I guess it's his excitement just running over to me.  Luke got to dress up as David today at school and had a little Halloween party....excuse me, it's a baptist school so he had a "Fall Party"!  While he was at school Caroline and I went to vote, it literally only took about 15 minutes, they even let us go to the disabled booth since I had a stroller!

This afternoon I've tried to keep Luke as calm as possible and let him rest before tonight, but of course he was in no mood to nap!  We are about to start getting the kids ready for tonight! 

I just have one picture to share.....this is where we spend most of our day, I have grown to really really love our backyard and I think the kids have too!

The big reveal!

Up until this past Friday Luke has told anyone who would listen to him that he was going to be Spiderman for Halloween.  We're not really sure how he decided on Spiderman, he's never watched it and he doesn't know anything about him.  We bought him a Spiderman costume for him to play with for his birthday so when he said he wanted to be Spiderman for Halloween we just went with it......so back to this past Friday.  We were driving home and had this conversation....

Me - Luke, Halloween is just one week away, are you excited!?

Luke- Yep, I sure am.  I'm going to be Spiderman!!

Me - Are you sure?  You know you can be anyone you want to be.

Then Luke stared out the window for a minute

Luke - Could I be David Mommy?

Me - Sure Luke, whatever you can think of you can be!

Luke - But you can't buy a David costume.

Me - I can make one for you Luke

Luke- You can?  Yeah!!!  I'm going to be David!!!

The rest of the weekend I questioned him over and over making sure David was what he really wanted to be.  When I was sure his mind was set I started gathering things and started making his costume!  Now....I can't say I know how to sew, I just know how to kind of operate a sewing machine.  I managed to sew a few seams and make this easy costume!  Tonight we had our final fitting!!  Luke was about to burst out of his skin he was so excited!

Luke's favorite part of the costume is the authentic sling shot.  Eugene and I looked at alot of pictures trying to make one as close to the one David had, I think this one turned out pretty good!

 

Then Luke wanted to reenact David and Goliath....Eugene was a good dad and obliged!

 

 

As most of you know Luke is almost to the point of being obsessed with David.  He knows so much about him, about the Philistines and the Israelites.  We are so excited that he's already so interested in learning about the bible!  The other day Luke said "I like David, he's really real, not just pretend like Spiderman!"  Then, without being prompted or anything he said "When I get to heaven I'm going to go up to David and say "Hey David!" and give him a big hug!"  That almost made me cry!  To think one day David will be able to tell Luke all about what happened first hand!

So Happy!

Maybe it's because I finished sewing Luke's Halloween costume a few minutes ago, or the fact that I've had two cups of coffee, not sure....but I'm way too excited for a Wednesday night!  The last few nights I've gone to bed relatively early so I've missed out on my late night blogging time.  Tonight I'm thinking might be a late one....after I update the blog I've got two loads of clothes to fold and I'm going to have an ironing party!  Sound exciting??

This afternoon I got the kids all ready to go to church, but by about 4:30 pm things were going south.  Neither one of them took an afternoon nap and there was no way they were going to make it until 8pm awake so we decided not to go.  Instead Eugene came home, we had an early supper, then Caroline went down around 7pm.  Then Eugene, Luke and I carved our second pumpkin of the year.  I think Eugene and I have actually had more fun with it than we should!  A few nights ago Eugene and Luke carved a bat into a pumpkin.....

I found this neat light that changes colors to put in it at Michael's.  Then tonight we used a light kit and carved this......
   

We put the pumpkin outside, then decided we needed to make a little scene for our pumpkins and came up with this.....

We were pretty impressed with ourselves! 

Luke went to bed before 8 pm, then Eugene and I made a pot of coffee and sat and chatted for awhile.  In the last month we have become avid coffee drinkers.  Liza, Eugene's sister gave us a bag of coffee beans and a grinder awhile back.  We've really enjoyed using it but we ran out of beans last week so I decided I'd just buy the can of walmart brand foldgers coffee for us since it really is so much cheaper.  We made one pot of that garbage and I about spit the coffee out of my mouth when I drank it!  I now realize that somewhere along the line we've become coffee snobs!  I quickly ran out and got us another bag of beans......wow, what a difference!!!  Thanks Liza for enlightening us!

Well, that's enough for tonight...the laundry room is calling my name.  I think I'll leave you with a blast from the past.....hard to believe this is 8 years ago!  The first pumpkin Eugene and I carved together!
   
 

Finally!

I've been having some Internet explorer problems the last few days and haven't been able to log in to update the blog!  I took a few cute pictures of the kids this past weekend but I still need to sort through them all, so I'll have more to share later.  But I thought I'd go ahead and post my new favorite picture of the two of them!  And don't you love the bow?!  Caroline is finally wearing them for me!

Time to post!

The kids are both napping so I thought now was as good a time as any to post something!  It seems there is alot I haven't posted about lately so I'll try and update!

First of all my trip to Savannah went really well.  I was able to help my grandparents out with a few things around the house.  I enjoyed some yummy homemade meals and nice relaxing walks with Granddad.  I'm not sure why but I have always enjoyed hanging out with old people!  As a teenager I took a couple of trips by myself to stay with my Great Great Aunt and Uncle in Kansas.  We traveled all over the Midwest together and I drove!  On one trip to Colorado I actually drove up Pike's Peak!  I was only 17!  Crazy!  I just really enjoy older folks company.  They have lived so much longer than me and know so much more, I just love to hear all their stories....anyway, you get it, I like old people.  I'll be going back in the next couple of weeks to stay a few days again when my granddad starts chemo treatments. 

Things on the home front have been wonderful lately, nice and calm.  The kids and I have enjoyed so many days playing outside!  In the evenings Eugene's been grilling more.  We're hoping maybe one night this weekend we can roast marshmallows on the fire pit out back!   It's something about this time of year that is so relaxing, maybe it's the shorter days or the cooler temperatures, not sure.  I just love fall!!! 

Eugene's folks came to town this past weekend.  We literally stayed outside all day Saturday with the kids and Saturday night we made kabobs and corn on the cobb for supper, I think Luke ate 4 ears!  The kid has a crazy obsession with corn on the cobb!  Nana brought lots of Halloween books that Luke has been enjoying all week.  It's so neat to watch him get so excited about holidays now, I can't wait to watch his excitement on Christmas.  Hopefully this weekend sometime we'll carve pumpkins.....

well, I hear little Caroline playing in her crib, I need to wrap up, I'll leave you with a picture I snapped last week of her.  She gets into everything!!!

Really quick post!

Just have a minute so not much time to chat!  I did want to post a few pictures from yesterday playing outside.  The weather has been so WONDERFUL we have really enjoyed the outdoors this weekend!

Sunday

Not much new to report around here today.  Eugene's been working alot this weekend so this afternoon we just hung around the house and played with the kiddos.  Luke loves to wrestle around on the floor but now Caroline has joined in.  She waddles over and just falls down on whoever is laying on the floor, then she rolls over laughing!  Today she went down pretty hard and hit Eugene's knee with her head, she didn't even flinch!  Our kids have some very hard heads! 

Later tonight, Eugene and I went into Luke's room to do the final tuck in for the night...you know, make sure he's covered up, turn off his light, that kind of thing.  Well, I opened his door to turn off his light and he was looking right at me!  I could tell that he hadn't been to sleep yet and it had been at least an hour and a half since we tucked him in.  Eugene and I laid across his bed and talked to him for a few minutes.  He just told us he'd been reading and that he wasn't tired.  He's been very into "reading" lately. Of course he just looks at the pictures in his books, he doesn't actually read.  We gave him more hugs and kisses and told him he needed to go onto sleep, I'm about to go check on him again, hopefully this time he'll be asleep! 

I won't be blogging the next two days, I'm leaving in the morning to visit my grandparents in Savannah.  We found out recently that my granddad has colon cancer.  He had surgery about a week and a half ago to remove a major portion of it.  He's home from the hospital now, but he'll be starting chemotherapy soon.  Everyone in the family has been taking turns caring for granddad, now it's my turn.  I'm looking forward to spending some quality time with both my grandparents, and I think my grandma has me a To Do list going!  Have a great week!   

Saturday

The kids are both taking a nap right now so I thought I'd sneak in here and wrap up our Nashville trip!  We've had a good day already.  We went to a birthday party and hit the airport for the annual fly in.  I didn't take my camera since it was rainy.  I just realized that this is the third year in a row we've gone.  Two years ago Eugene and I took Luke, and last year Grace and Claire went with us.  It's nice to have a record of it!  I can't believe I've been blogging for over 2 years now! 

Okay....so Nashville day 3! 

Tuesday in Nashville it was very rainy.  I hit the mall again!  I shopped in the morning for a bit, then headed back to the hotel.  I went in a bunch of shops at Opryland and walked all over the complex until Eugene was done for the day.  We were planning on going back downtown Nasvhille Tuesday night, but it was so rainy we decided not to get out in the car.  The Opry was live that night but it was just the Charlie Daniels Band playing.  They are a bit too country for Eugene and I've seen them live at least 3 times so we decided to pass on going.  We headed over to Opry Mills again and ate at Tony Roma's.  Then we went to Barnes and Noble.  We picked Luke up two Berenstain Bear books, which we've read to him at least 5 times each since we've been back!  It makes me so happy he has such a love for books! 

Wednesday morning Eugene wrapped up at the conference and we headed out.  We went to the Loveless Cafe for a late breakfast.  We decided to go there because I'd seen a Throw down with Bobby Flay show that was filmed there.  Bobby Flay challenged them to biscuit making because they supposedly have the best in the south.  Our breakfast was great!  They really do have delicious biscuits!  We talked to some of the folks that work there and they said that when Bobby Flay came he was kind of a jerk.  He seems so nice on TV!  That was kind of disappointing to hear.  They also said that Gene Simmons was going to be there that afternoon filming his reality show.  He was going to be building a campfire outside or something???  Those shows are obviously so staged! 

The cafe was really neat.  It was out in the middle of nowhere, I thought the sign was pretty classic

 

After that we headed home!  We had such a great time!  Here's one last picture of us at Opryland!
